Who was the Afterburner Club designed for?

The Afterburner Club™ is a gathering place designed for three specific kinds of people.

  1. Men and Women who are considering becoming Fighter Pilots in the U.S. Military and want to see if becoming a fighter pilot is for them.
  2. Men and Women who made the decision to join the U.S. Military to become a Fighter Pilot and want to know what will separate them from their future classmates, giving them the advantage from day one when they walk into a recruiters office.
  3. Men and Women who are currently in the U.S. Military who want to excel as a fighter pilot and get the jet of their choice.

What services are the Afterburner Club Members trying to get into?

There are four major services in the U.S. Department of Defense. Three of the four fly tactical fighter jets: Air Force, Navy and the Marine Corps.

Your first step is to choose a service. The one that you choose will likely have something to do with coupling your own personality with that of the particular service.

I’m still not sure how much of this is genetic and how much is environment, but one thing I do know: each service caters to a certain type of guy (or gal). Without fail, each pilot is an exceptionally gifted person, but each pilot also represents a small slice of their service’s personality. My Afterburner Club™ will help you decide which service fits your personality type the best.

What are the age limits to become a Fighter Pilot in the U.S. Military?

The age limits vary from service:

  • Navy – 27 at application
  • Marines – 28
  • Air Force – 29 at application, 29.5 by the time the board meets.

Having said that, if you are older, there is still a chance for a waiver. This chance can be anywhere between “good” and “slim-to-none” depending on your age, motivation, experience, recommendations, etc.

I am working one-on-one with a candidate for the Air Force who is 31 and just graduating from college. While normally a long shot, I think he stands a good chance. He is very motivated, has a number of senior officers giving him recommendations, and is completing his private pilots training. Not to mention using the advice and knowledge he gets from the Afterburner Club™ to further help his chances.

Can I join if I’m from another country?

Most members of the Afterburner Club™ are those going after a US Fighter Pilot flight slot.

However, we do have an entire section inside the forum where future fighter pilots gather from other countries.
